The Army captured five of the nine Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards for 2012. Fort Hood, Texas, won both the installation and team categories for Environmental Quality; Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Pennsylvania won the industrial installation Sustainability award; the Oahu Army Natural Resource Team from U.S. Army Garrison -- Hawaii won the team award for Natural Resources Conservation; and the Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based in Warren, Mich., won the team award for Environmental Excellence in Weapon System Acquisition.
A panel of judges representing federal and state agencies, academia, and the public selected the winners who were announced in a DOD News Release. The competition recognizes individuals, teams and installations for outstanding achievements in conserving and sustaining the natural and cultural resources of the Department of Defense. Winners will receive their awards at a ceremony hosted by the Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics on June 6 at the Pentagon Auditorium.
