FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. (April 12, 2012) -- It took just four days for bargain hunters to purchase almost $30,000 of merchandise during the final sale at the Course's Pro Shop.

The shop sold about half of its total merchandise for April during the 50 percent-off sale, which began April 1, said Ryan Spikes, the shop's manager.

"It went pretty quick," he said.

The shop is selling a wide range of name-brand golf items, ranging from clubs and balls to apparel and shoes, from manufacturers such as Nike, Titleist and FootJoy.

By April 5, many of the shelves were empty, with only three racks of clothes and a modest display of golf shoes remaining.

Early last week, Kevin Blanks, who has golfed at the Courses for about a year, purchased a few hats and T-shirts.

"It's a good idea," said Blanks, a receptionist at the Directorate of Public Works. "It's a big percentage off."

Kathy Fitzpatrick, a DoD civilian who has golfed at the Courses for more than a decade, stopped by to look through the remaining clothes.

"We're sorry to see it go," Fitzpatrick said of the Courses.

Spikes said the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will decide how the proceeds from the sale will be used.

"Everybody likes a really good deal, although it's a bit bittersweet," he said.
