Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kimberly Reynolds visited Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., March 1 to learn more about the Arsenal, its tenant organizations and its importance to the community. During the nearly one-hour visit, the Iowa governor and lieutenant governor listened to briefings from Joel Himsl, Rock Island Arsenal garrison manager; Maj. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, Army Sustainment Command commanding general; Col. Arnold P. Montgomery, Joint Munitions Command chief of staff; Col. James O. Fly, Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center commander; and Col. Steven P. Merkel, 1st Army chief of staff, and toured the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, a 1.5 million square-foot vertically integrated manufacturing facility -- the only one of its kind in the Defense Department.
