An officer from 2nd Brigade Combat Team talked Monday with students from Sackets Harbor Central School.

Capt. Scott Bostic, 2nd Brigade Combat Team medical planner, was invited by Ryan Tastor, school guidance counselor, to talk about his career and the path that led him to it.

Bostic spoke to the students as part of an internship program in which the school allows students to learn about possible future careers, Tastor said.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Bostic has been in the Army for approximately seven years. He has been with 2nd BCT since June 2009 and deployed with the brigade to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Bostic told the class some of his history and what West Point was like for him.

"I joined the Army as an infantry officer, but after becoming ill my senior year, I was forced to change my job," he said. "I could barely walk and was having to use crutches or a cane to get around, but I didn't let that stop me from graduating."

"Now I am a brigade medical planner. I make sure sick or injured people serving in the Army get the help and care they need so they can continue the fight," Bostic said.

"Education opens doors. Through persistent hard work, anything can be accomplished," he added.
