FORT CAMPBELL, Ky -- A new US Army Reserve center on the Tennessee side of Fort Campbell had its ribbon cutting ceremony on October 1. The new Reserve center will be the home for three Mobilization Support Battalions, the 1108th, 1109th and 1110th, as well as the 2nd Battalion, 399th Regiment, an element of the 100th Division (Institutional Training). The MSBs were stood up in 2008.
The project began in March 2010 and the building was ready for occupation in July 2011. The 1108th commander, Lt. Col. Elizabeth Grossi, thanked the Soldiers profusely during her remarks, noting that the move could not have been successful without them. She also thanked the 81st RSC and credited the Wildcats with giving the MSBs "confidence and advocacy" as they drive on with their missions. "We are moving to the walk phase," she said, "and we are ready to run."
The guest speaker for the event was retired Chaplain (Col.) Sherman Reed, the Army Reserve Ambassador from Tennessee. He praised the current generation of Soldiers for their dedication to duty saying, "Freedom for you takes on a different dimension most people will never know."
Joining Grossi and Reed in the ribbon cutting was the 81st RSC General Engineer Fermin Borrero and Fort Campbell Garrison commander Col. Perry C. Clark.
After the short ceremony, guests were invited to go on a tour of the new center. "It's a nice new facility," said Capt. Michael Gloss, the 1108th Executive Officer. "We're happy to have a place to call home."
This latest Reserve center is one of many recent projects directly arising from the 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC) Commission's mission to ensure the integrity of the base closure and realignment process.
