Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others--a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors, according to the official website. In 2009 alone, three million people volunteered on thousands of projects in hundreds of towns. This year, three million people are again expected to volunteer across the country.
Volunteers in the past include service members and their family members, government civilians (including language instructors and Department of Defense Center employees) veterans, contractors and members of the public, said Army Community Service Director Kevin A. Moore, adding that "Anyone can volunteer to help others through the Presidio of Monterey's projects."
She said that ACS will have vans in front of AISO library that are designated to take volunteers to and from each work site Oct. 22. Vans will depart for the sites at 9:30 a.m. Also, if people want to drive separately, ACS can provide directions to the work sites.
For more information or to sign up, volunteers may call ACS at 831-242-7660 or 831-242-7652.
