FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Fort Rucker and civilianjobs.com won’t have to worry about snow and ice putting their annual job fair on hold July 20 as it did in January.
Snow and ice storms in Atlanta grounded several flights in January, which kept many companies who planned to participate in the job fair from making the trip to the installation.
Now, the companies and ACAP officials are ready to get things moving for those seeking post-military employment with the third annual Job Fair at The Landing. Preregistration begins at 9 a.m. with the fair beginning at 10 a.m.
“Unfortunately we had to reschedule back in January, but this organization always does a great job for us,” said Bryan Tharpe, ACAP Transition Services manager. “We’re really looking forward to hosting it again.”
The job fair is open only to those currently serving in the military, their Families and retirees, Tharpe said. This gives those who are preparing to leave the military a real chance to find work once they leave.
“The companies coming down for the fair are specifically looking for the type of experience one would gain by being in the military,” he said. “That gives our Soldiers and Aviators a real chance to get out there and make a solid connection.”
Companies like Army Fleet Support, Aerotek, American Eurocopter, ProTrain and Boeing are just a few of the companies already signed up to have representatives at the fair, Tharpe said.
He added that those companies coming to the fair, are looking for people to hire, not just to collect résumés.
“Not all of it is geared just toward Aviators, though,” he said. “Companies are also looking to fill administrative, sales, engineering, maintenance, medical and driving positions as well.”
According to civlianjobs.com, all military and prior-military may pre-register online at the website and be matched with companies based on career and geographic preferences.
“If they preregister online, that gives the companies a chance to look at them early,” Tharpe said. “By preregistering, if there are companies looking for your specific skills, they can go ahead and schedule interview time at the fair which could lead to faster results.”
Attendees should bring five to 10 copies of their updated résumés and should dress appropriately for the event, he added.
“Dressing in their (Army Combat Uniform) is ok for Soldiers, but others should consider dressing in their Sunday best,” Tharpe said. “It’s not just about landing a job; it can also be about networking and making a good impression.”
