FORT STEWART, Ga. - Fort Stewart’s Winn Army Community Hospital officially opened its newly renovated Women’s Wellness Center, June 20, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Third Infantry Division female Soldiers and Family Members have begun utilizing the clinic in its new location inside the hospital.

According to Hospital Commander, Col. Paul Cordts, the new clinic will offer all women’s services to include mammography, ultrasound, bone density along with obstetrics and gynecological care.

Gynecology and Obstetrics patients had previously used a temporary location behind the hospital during the renovation process.

“We will be providing all women’s services here on the fourth floor,” said Col. Cordts. “The convenient location of these services makes for one-stop shopping on the fourth floor.”

During the ceremony, the standing room only crowd listened while Sgt. Kristina Doolittle, MEDDAC, WTB, sang the national anthem and the invocation given by Chaplain (Capt.) Deborah Brown.

Throughout his remarks, Col. Cordts, shared impressive statistics regarding the OB/GYN clinical staff and what patients can continue to expect in the new location.

In October 2010, the staff had administered the flu vaccine to 81 percent of then-pregnant women using their services. In addition, the staff had a 100 percent vaccination rate for pertussis, otherwise known as whooping cough, which can be potentially fatal in infants according to Col. Cordts.

“The opening of this clinic re-affirms our support for the Army Family Covenant… if you look at our balanced score card which is our strategy map, we fully support AFC… and it shows that we maximize physical and psychological health promotion and prevention,” Col. Cordts said.

By offering extensive women’s services in one convenient location demonstrates the level of commitment Col. Cordts and his team have made with the Fort Stewart community.

“I am happy that we can provide these services… our Families deserve these services. We support 3rd Infantry Division… we have the finest staff… and the women who will receive care here deserve it,” Col. Cordts said.

Colonel Cordts ended his remarks by thanking the staff for their teamwork and dedication in making the move successful. Patients can continue to expect quality holistic care all in one location.

Christie Milton, spouse of Garrison Commander Col. Kevin Milton, said “Military medicine is just the best… they are not community based but geographically based. The offering of mammography and bone density on the same floor for women is amazing. It’s better to go to one place [example Walmart] and get everything you need rather than go to a mall and shop five different stores."

Winn Army Community Hospital, a military treatment facility, provides care to thousands of beneficiaries to include Soldiers, Family Members, veterans and retirees who call Fort Stewart home.
