Third Army and representatives from Jordan participated in a joint women's health initiative forum near Atlanta, Ga. April 26-28. The three-day health initiative allowed Third Army and Jordan participants to visit healthcare facilities and show the Jordanian representatives how the U.S. healthcare system deals with women's health issues from the certificate level through the master's degree level. The Jordanian representatives also learned how the U.S. educates its nurses.

"Third Army utilized this engagement to build a foundation for future engagements," said Pete Clymer, Third Army international military affairs representative. "Third Army representatives ensured they addressed concerns and practices to further develop our relationship."

The Jordanian representatives were made up of two administrators from the office of the Women's Health Initiative of Jordan and three members of the staff of the first women's clinic opened by the WHI in Tafilah, Jordan.

This was the first time Third Army has brought Jordanian medical representatives to the Atlanta area for a women's health initiative.

The event began with visits to health clinics in north Georgia to include Cherokee and Pickens counties. This was followed with visits to multiple health clinics and hospitals in the Atlanta metropolitan area. During these visits the Jordanian representatives exchanged lessons learned in healthcare and open discussions on best practices.

According to Clymer, the Jordanian representatives left with a better understanding on how to educate nurses, both in initial care and continuing education.

"This event increased the Jordanian's ability to provide healthcare to its military and civilian populace," said Clymer. "The team gained valuable information they can apply to their respective programs in Jordan which they will be able to resource in the future."

Third Army remains committed to both the healthcare and wellbeing of its Troops, as well as the troops of partner nations. Although no healthcare events are currently scheduled for this year, Third Army will further its initiative by continuing to provide support through multiple information exchanges.
