Army officials broke ground at the site of the new Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning, Ga., April 29, 2011. The $333 million project is scheduled for completion by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District and prime contractor Turner Construction in January 2014. The contract includes the design and construction of a 745,000-square-foot hospital, almost twice the size of the current facility. With 70 in-patient beds, the new hospital will serve military members, retirees, and families of the Fort Benning community with a range of specialties. The design is split into two wings - a clinic and hospital section, equipped with two parking decks for patients and staff members.
