SAN ANTONIO - The U.S. Army Installation Management Command\'s top public affairs professionals were honored April 21 at the Secretary of the Army Major General Keith L. Ware Awards ceremony during the Army Installation Management Symposium.
Twenty individuals and representatives from 21 installations who went on to represent IMCOM at the Army-level competition received plaques from the Sgt. Maj. of the Army, Raymond F. Chandler III, the Hon. Katherine Hammack, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of IMCOM and Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management, and IMCOM Command Sgt. Maj. Neil Ciotola.
The Keith L. Ware Award distinguishes Soldiers and Department of the Army civilians for excellence in achieving the objectives of the Army Public Affairs program. The Secretary of the Army sponsors the program and the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs conducts the competition annually in order to recognize, cultivate and inspire excellence within the Army Public Affairs community.
The competition consists of 42 print, broadcast and electronic journalism categories and three community relations categories. Some categories recognize units while others identify individual achievement.
The 2010 Major General Keith L. Ware Award winners, listed by category, include:
Print - Unit
- Metro Format Newspaper: Fort Leavenworth Lamp, represented by garrison commander Col. Wayne Green
- Best Tabloid Newspaper: Fort Bliss Monitor, represented by garrison commander Col. Joseph Simonelli. Fort Bliss also won top honors in the Television Information Program category for their "Safety Awareness Video." Both awards won in the Army competition as well.
- Magazine-Format Publication: "Perspectives" magazine, published by the Family, Morale
Welfare and Recreation Command, represented by co-producers Ed Griffin from FMWR
marketing and Bill Bradner from FMWRC public affairs
- Newsletters and Field Publications: Down Range, published at Ft. A.P. Hill, represented by garrison commander Lt. Col. John Haefner. Down Range won at the Army level as well.
Electronic Communication Products - Unit
- Web Publications: "Army War College Community Banner," produced by Carlisle Barracks,
represented by garrison commander Lt. Col. Janet Holliday. The publication won at the Army
level as well.
- Website: USAG Natick, represented by garrison commander Lt. Col. Kari Otto
- New Media: "Yongsan Live! Community News in Real Time" by U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan,
represented by garrison commander Col. William Huber
- Command Blog: "Command Video Blog" from USAG Baden-Wuerttemberg, represented by
garrison commander Col. William Butcher. The blog also won at the Army level.
- Radio Information Program: "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" from III Corps and Ft. Hood,
represented by garrison commander Col. Mark Freitag

Community Relations - Unit

Col. Jeffery Dill. This project also won the Kathy Canham Ross award of distinction for being the
best out of all community relations submissions to IMCOM.
