FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md - Fish don't mind the rain. Neither did the scores of youngsters who spent Saturday morning with a fishing line tossed into Burba Lake.

Fort Meade Outdoor Recreation and the Meade Rod and Gun Club sponsored the installation's annual Fishing Rodeo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Area youth ages 3 to 16 were divided into three age groups and competed to catch the lake's largest fish. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources stocked the lake with rainbow trout, bass and bluegills prior to the event.

Winners were awarded plaques and prizes such as water bottles and hats. Tony Tingsley, from the 12- to 16-year-old age group, reeled in the largest fish of the day -- a 500-gram bass.

Despite the chilly rain, more than 100 youngsters came out to participate in the competition, said Bernadine Jackson, a recreational assistant with the Outdoor Recreation division at the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

"Minus the bad weather, they were all really excited," Jackson said.

Fishing Rodeo Winners

Ages 3 to 6:

1.Tyler Sheaffer: 280 grams trout

2. Madison Brown: 250 grams trout

3. (Tie) Jayden Moore: 90 grams trout; Kylie Turner: 90 grams bluegill

Ages 7 to 11:

1. Anthony Dellorso: 95 grams bluegill

2. (Tie) Tyrell Cvockett: 90 grams bluegill;

David Harness: 90 grams bluegill

Ages 12 to 16:

1. Tony Tingsley: 500 grams bass

2. Esther Deville: 420 grams bass

3. (Tie) Helena Horness: 100 grams bluegill;

Willmary Anderson: 100 grams bluegill
