FORT CARSON, Colo. -- The season-nine winner of the NBC television show "Biggest Loser," Michael Ventrella, shared his story of weight loss with the Fort Carson community during an appearance Jan. 21 at the Elkhorn Conference Center.
Ventrella spoke about his massive weight loss of more than 250 pounds during the eight-month journey and his struggles and goals for the next chapter of his life. He said his intention of coming to the Mountain Post was to promote the message of hope and to inspire those troubled with losing weight.
He winner emphasized to the group that small steps lead to big changes such as switching from drinking soda to water or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
"I would love for everybody to understand that it's the small changes that make a big difference," he said.
Another suggestion Ventrella gave was to be active in everyday life. The gym isn't the only way to lose weight, he said.
"You don't need to get yourself into a gym to be active."
Ventrella came to the Colorado Springs area to host multiple events throughout the week educating people on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and spreading the message that "anything is possible."
"It's my way of paying it forward," Ventrella said.
