FORT BENNING, Ga. - The Department of Veterans Affairs Soldier Services Counseling Center celebrated its move to Building 2751 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.
The benefits of moving from Soldiers' Plaza include more parking and a more central Main Post location, said Garrison Commander Col. Thomas Macdonald, who hosted the ceremony.
The $300,000 project "connects the outstanding VA counseling services for veterans with an equally outstanding facility," said guest speaker Command Sgt. Maj. Chris Hardy, Maneuver Center of Excellence command sergeant major.
Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Broady, Fort Benning's military service coordinator for the Department of Veterans Affairs, said clients will have a more pleasant experience while outprocessing from the military.
People can fill out forms and get counseling in private, he said.
The building has heat, hot water and televisions donated from Ricky Riley of Omni Financial and Tom Ellis of All-American Motor Company.
Open Monday through Friday, the hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We tell people we are across from Subway," said Jim Boston, rehabilitation counselor at the center.
