FORT HOOD, Texas - Cpl. Jason Savage, a valued Soldier and admired friend, was remembered during his memorial service at the "Ironhorse" Chapel, here, Oct. 28.

According to Savage's friends, he was a great pool-player, leader and friend.

Savage, from Mineral Wells, Texas, enlisted in the Army through the Military Entrance Processing Station in Dallas as an Infantryman on a three year contract. He attended basic training at Fort Benning, Ga.: "Home of the Infantry".

In October, 2008 he arrived at Fort Hood and was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. He deployed with the brigade in support of Operation Iraqi freedom 09-10.

Spc. Adam Scheffler and Savage became friends shortly upon the return of the rotation of National Training Center, spoke a few words about his fallen friend.

"Jason was a great pool player. It was difficult to beat him, but whenever I did, I would rejoice like I had just won the superbowl, and not let him forget about it for a couple weeks," Scheffler joked.

Cpl. Matthew Whall, a fellow Soldier and friend, also met Savage shortly after returning from NTC.

"He was a great friend and I have many fond memories with him," Whall commented about his relationship with Savage; followed by a few pool stories and his friend's determination to get him to the hospital after burning his legs.

Savages determination was not the only characteristic his friends remembered.

According to Savages company commander, Capt. Martin Peters, Savage was admired for his attention to detail, hard work and can-do attitude by his peers and leadership.

"He may no longer be here with us, but he will definitly be missed," said Peters.

Savage is survived by his parents James and Joann Savage.
