MANNHEIM, Germany (Sept. 10, 2010) -- Seven hundred fresh grilled steaks were prepared and served by volunteers from the Steak Team Mission, a nonprofit group based in Dallas, Texas, to over 500 Soldiers and family members of the 7th Signal Brigade and the Mannheim community showing their support to the newly redeployed Soldiers.

"We're grateful that the group travelled all the way from Texas," said Lt. Col. Patrick Ginn, commander, 72nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion. "It's always nice when an organization like this volunteers their time to support the troops." Soldiers of the 72nd ESB uncased the battalion colors earlier that day to recognize the safe return of over 300 troops from Iraq.

The Steak Team Mission provided an assorted menu including fresh cornbread, pasta, vegetables, baked beans and ice cream. Beverages and two big cakes were donated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Although this nonprofit travels to war-zones to support Soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, they made a trip to meet these veterans at their home station.

"The event was much better because of the support provided by the Garrison Staff, Better Opportunities for Signal Soldiers and 72nd ESB Family Support Group," said Master Sgt. Hugh McIntosh, 72nd ESB. The USO raffled a trip for two to Paris, while Service Credit Union donated an 8 gigabyte MP3 player and movie tickets to the AAFES Theater.
