DAVENPORT, Iowa - Speaking as comrades in arms, the commanding general, command sergeant major and command chaplain of Army Sustainment Command participated in the seventh annual All-Era Veterans Healing Field event held at Memorial Park Aug. 27-29.

Dozens of American flags covered the Healing Field, each with a placard containing names of fallen warriors of the past year. On the dais, upturned rifles, topped by a helmet, and accompanied by boots, paid homage to the fallen of all branches of military service.

In his remarks at the Aug. 27 opening ceremony, Maj. Gen. Yves J. Fontaine, ASC's commanding general, spoke to the event's inspiring nature.

"I can assure all visitors that your hearts will be touched, and that you will go away inspired and filled with a new-found appreciation for all of our veterans - past and present, living and dead - as well as for those who serve today," said Fontaine.

Speaking at the Aug. 29 closing ceremony, ASC Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen D. Blake described the ties that bind people in uniform.

"A servicemember, all of us, form a bond, stronger than a mother's love and stronger than a wedding vow," he said.

Chaplain (Maj.) Charles B. Rizer, Jr., offered prayers at both the opening and closing ceremonies.
