ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- Members of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy took part in a robust tour of Aberdeen Proving Ground and Research, Development and Engineering Command facilities Aug. 26.
Gary Martin, executive deputy to the commanding general, RDECOM, hosted the group as they gained a full understanding of the command's research and development capabilities, as well as the BRAC impact on the installation.
Agenda highlights include tours of Edgewood Chemical Biological Center facilities, Army Research Laboratory Rodman facilities and a BRAC fly-over tour.
The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command's chemical and biological facility gave the group a high-level view of the skilled workforce and cutting-edge facilities that the command to remain the nation's principal research and development center.
The facilities tour included a stop at the Advanced Chemistry Laboratory, a facility that includes advanced toxic agent laboratories, environmental chambers and secure work spaces for classified materials. Chemical agent operations in this building include analytical chemistry, Chemical Weapons Convention treaty support, filtration, decontamination and evaluation of chemical agent detectors.
