PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - There were more than 250 entries, but only one name stood out among the rest: the Gunpowder Grill.

Situated in the building where the fast-food staple previously known as Lil' Skeeters was once located, the restaurant received a face-lift and opened with a new name.

The Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation department here launched a contest to see who could come up with the best name for the snack shop.

In the end, Vincent Jerman submitted 16 names and, much to his surprise, one of them clicked.

Jerman, a business management information analyst with Project Manager Close Combat Systems, said he also had high hopes for some of his other submissions such as Firepower Fixens and Artillery Eatery.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Gunpowder Grill was the first of many ribbon cuttings that Lt. Col. Herb Koehler will preside over while serving as the installation's new garrison commander.

"I have tried the food here and I have to say I'm a fan of the chili," Koehler said.

Jeff DiPietro, Food and Beverage Director, said that the facility underwent a complete refurbishing in just 10 days.

"The Chugach team of Matt Burke and Jimmy Goodman erected a new counter, painted the entire facility, and did some minor electrical upgrades enabling us to open just in time for golf season," DiPietro said.

Jerman is probably one of the only people employed here who can drive by a building and honestly say, "I named that place."

He said he was happy that one of his names was chosen. For winning the naming contest, Jerman received an Apple iTouch with a case and docking station. However, he has a different preference in taste than the commander, choosing the pulled -pork sandwich as his favorite menu item.
