CAMP DARBY, Italy - More than 250 motorcycle riders visited Camp Darby during the Livorno Harley Owners Group rally May 22.

According to Louis Roach, U.S. Army Garrison Livorno deputy commander and avid Harley Davidson rider, the visit was a great chance for Italian and American riders to ride together and in a safe environment while improving the friendship and relations.

"I've had every safety course there is and have been riding for many years and this ride we did highlighted proper safety and mentorship, because there are no exceptions when it comes to safety," said Roach.

"We decided to stop at Camp Darby because it was something that we really wanted to do as an organization and hope this is going to become an annual event," added Riccardo Batini, Livorno Chapter director.

For Air Force Master Sgt. Mick Linhard, who has had over 25 years experience in riding motorbikes, he said there was always something riders could learn.

"It was interesting to see firsthand how the Italians ride and react when things come up while you're out on the road," said Linhard.

Italian base Commander Col. Raffaele Iubini added that Harley Davidson is not just a label or a firm, but a symbol of freedom.

"This is one of the best examples of friendship and dedication between the Italian and American Harley Davidson motorcycle riders," said Col. Iubini. "It was an honor and a privilege to host this visit."

While at Camp Darby, the riders did a tour around the military installation and enjoyed a barbecue and live music by Mimmo Mollica Band.
