DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. - U.S. Army Garrison - Detroit Arsenal Environmental Management System successfully achieved third-party certification for the International Organization for Standardization, 14001, April 1.

Three QMI-SAI auditors conducted a six-day registration audit which included a comprehensive review of the EMS design and implementation program. Random interviews of installation personnel were also performed to determine the workforce's level of knowledge on how to handle issues without harming the environment.

"I greatly appreciate the entire team's cooperation and assistance in developing and supporting the Garrison's EMS," said Terry Tighe, environmental coordinator. "Each member should be very proud of their contributions to reduce the Detroit Arsenal's environmental footprint and enhance environmental compliance."

The USAG-Detroit Arsenal remains dedicated to increasing sustainability by decreasing energy use and water consumption, reducing waste sent to landfills through source reduction, recycling, and reuse and recovery of materials, and reducing use of hazardous materials.

At the closing meeting, Mr. Jerry Osborne, Lead QMI-SAI auditor, complimented USAG-Detroit Arsenal on their efficient EMS database and overall EMS design.

"This certification demonstrates the commitment of Brenda Lee McCullough, garrison manager, Maj. Gen. Kurt Stein, TACOM LCMC commander, and all managers at Detroit Arsenal to achieve sustainability and support the Army's strategy for the environment," said Tighe. "Their support has been vital to the success of these systems."
