2010 Safe Summer Campaign

What is it'

Safe summer campaign promotes individual responsibility, engagement on all fronts, between leaders, Soldiers, families and peers which is vital in preventing off-duty fatalites in spring and summer season.

What has the Army done'

On April 1, the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center will launch the 2010 Safe Summer campaign to raise awareness of the increased hazards associated with summertime, off-duty activities and to provide Soldiers, Army civilians and their family members the information they need to manage risk and reduce their chance of being injured or killed in an accident.

This year's campaign, which runs through Sept. 30, emphasizes prevention and vigilance and is driven by a theme reminding all audiences that wherever their adventures take them this summer, they must always "Play It Safe."

The campaign site offers information on everything from grilling and food preparation to water-related activities and ATV/dirt bike safety. Products supporting the Safe Summer campaign include: posters, videos and feature articles on topics affecting our Soldiers' safety.

Why is this important to the Army'

Summer is a very dangerous time of year for the Army with notable increases in off-duty accidental fatalities. The Army team must remain watchful of the increased hazards associated with off-duty outdoor activities and remain engaged throughout this high-risk summer season.

The summer campaign provides leaders and safety professionals with the tools and resources they need to educate their force and ultimately drive down losses in their formations.

What efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future'

Just as in the past four years, the USACR/Safety Center will continue to initiate a summer safety campaign in an effort to heighten Soldiers' awareness of the risk associated with their off-duty, summer activities.
