Joint Base Balad, Iraq - This holiday season the 910th Quartermaster Company received over two hundred care packages and stockings in support of our Soldiers from friends, family and US supporters. While normally the holidays are remembered for shopping and long lines, this season our Soldiers felt the giving spirit of the people of the United States.
Operation Troop Appreciation, a non-profit foundation that supports troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, sent each of our Soldiers an Under Armor Shirt, candy cane and card. This organization has given over $1 Million dollars of life support items to troops in order to make their lives more comfortable while deployed.
Connellsville High school of Connellsville, PA sent a package to each one of our Soldiers containing T-shirts, hygiene items, fruit snacks and a card for inspiration. The Masons of Pennsylvania sent a 300 minute phone card to each of our Soldiers. Valero Oil Company, Oklahoma, sent care packages containing sausages, crackers and cheeses. Our FRGs from Mississippi and Pennsylvania sent cookie tins, gifts, and hygiene supplies. Sparta Hunting and Fishing Club and Homewatch Caregivers out of West Michigan sent packages with coffee, snacks, and hygiene items. Our Soldiers were extremely grateful. SGT Edison of Greenville, Pennsylvania believed that "these packages helped us get through the holidays away from our family and friends and boosted our Soldiers' morale." And SGT Hultz, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, felt that the packages made "it feel a little more like the holidays."
On Christmas Eve, SFC Campbell, 910th Quartermaster Company First Sergeant from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and 1LT Sarah Weber, 910th Quartermaster Company Commander, handed out phone cards to our Soldiers and sponsored a company pizza party. It was a welcome reminder to our Soldiers that we are an extended family. The Soldiers were given time to touch base with family and friends making sure they continue to build relationships at home. Since our redeployment is imminent, these strong ties will make our reintegration with family and friends that much easier.
