Col. Dan Anninos and Doug Leite, Baghdad Area Engineer, proudly display salamis recently donated by Michael and Marc Brummer of Hobby's Delicatessen and Restaurant located in Newark, New Jersey. The Brummers' father, a WWII veteran who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, received a salami from home every month. According to the Brummers, his father and his buddies always looked forward to the day it arrived. They'd sit on their helmets in a circle, and their father would cut off hunks of salami with his bayonet and pass them around. They said those moments brought smiles to the faces of their father and his buddies, and they are memories that, to this day, still make their father smile. It's the Brummers' hope the salamis they donate to those serving overseas will bring the same smiles their father experienced. To date, the Brummers have shipped more than 25 tons of salamis to men and women serving their country. The salamis they shipped to the Gulf Region District, thanks to a tip he received from New Jersey native Doug Leite, were distributed throughout the District to a grateful team of men and women dedicated to the reconstruction effort in Iraq.
