I take issue with the old adage "a picture's worth a thousand words." Not really.
Imagine this newspaper without cutlines. During a recent forage through an old file cabinet in the Public Affairs Office, I can across hundreds of very old - some might say historic - photographs of people and places and events on Fort Benning and its predecessor, Camp Benning, which existed for about a minute, circa 1918, in Columbus.
Unfortunately, there's very little information attached to these photos. I've posted them on our Fort Benning Flickr account in hopes that you can help us identify the folks in the photos or tell us when, where and why they were taken.
If not you, then maybe someone you know, perhaps a grandparent or uncle who served at Fort Benning back in the day.
In the coming weeks, we'll drive traffic to our Flickr site at http://www.flickr.com/photos/fortbenning/ in hopes of learning more about the photos.
I'll see to it that our Facebook and Twitter audiences know about it. But I'd really appreciate it if you could help us spread the work. On Flickr, you can post a comment telling us what you know about the people, the place or the event taking place in the photos.
Maybe you weren't there but you went through similar training and you can tell us about it. I'll keep you posted about our progress. If you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail at bridgett.siter@us.army.mil.
