BRUSSELS, Belgium - The U.S. Army Garrison Brussels hosted a Military Retiree Appreciation Day for the Benelux community Oct. 20.
Nearly 50 U.S. military retirees and spouses from throughout the region took advantage of all or portions of the day-long event.
The first half of the day included dedicated services to retirees in areas such as ID and privilege cards, medical and dental checks, legal services and the opportunity to sit down with a representative of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).
The second half of the day included a brief colors ceremony, a welcome by Brussels Garrison Commander Lt. Col Darin Conkright, and a series of well-received briefings.
Retired Army Col. Bob Mentell, a Germany resident and President of the U.S. Army-Europe Retiree Council, was on hand. He complimented the Brussels Garrison and the Brussels Medical and Dental Clinics for their efforts in supporting the Benelux Retiree community.
"Those of us who once served really appreciate what you do for us. And, from what I see, you routinely go above and beyond," he said.
