FORT RUCKER, Ala. ─ As Mother Nature turns down the heat and cranks up the cold, frost, ice and snow, the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center is launching its annual Fall/Winter Safety Campaign – Winter Ready, Mission Steady!
The campaign, scheduled to run through March, will provide tools and products focusing on important seasonally appropriate safety topics to help Soldiers and civilians counter potential hazards as winter weather arrives.
Cooler temperatures pose persistent challenges, including driving in adverse weather conditions and increased personal risk when outdoors. From fiscal years 2020-2024, the Army lost an average of 45 Soldiers per year in the October-March time frame. Leaders, Soldiers, civilians and family members may use these specific campaign tools to help minimize risk and prevent mishaps this winter.
The campaign includes posters, feature articles, videos and public service announcements focusing on seasonal safety topics, such as driving safely in wintery conditions, preventing cold-weather injuries, keeping homes safe and more.
“The theme is a reminder that each and every one of our team members is an important part of keeping our Army strong, lethal and successful in its mission of protecting our nation,” said Brig. Gen. Jonathan C. Byrom, USACRC commanding general and director of Army Safety. “We need every Soldier at every level in our formations to remain vigilant to all the threats that colder weather and all that comes with it presents, both on duty and off, so they can take the steps they need to take to mitigate those risks.”
USACRC officials encourage users to visit the organization’s website frequently for safety materials, as they will be released throughout the fall and winter.
“This campaign is a valuable tool for leaders at all levels to help them ensure their Soldiers are winter ready, and we keep our mission steadily and successfully moving forward,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Jean Pierre Alcedo, USACRC command sergeant major. “Leaders have a personal responsibility to be a role model – they should live safety, not just talk about it. These campaigns are our effort to make everyone aware of the hazards of the season and enable them to make informed decisions, whether on or off duty.”
The campaign will be available on the USACRC’s website at https://safety.army.mil, as well as the organization’s social media platforms: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
