This is a banner year – definitely, a streamer year – for Redstone Arsenal safety.
The Garrison Safety Office has received a safety excellence streamer from Department of Army headquarters and the Installation Management Command through IMCOM Directorate of Sustainment.
Rodney Shepherd, safety and health specialist and acting director of the installation safety office, announced the honor during the Garrison directors meeting July 28.
“That’s for our safety achievements and your help and assistance with the Garrison safety program,” he said.
The Garrison also received a safety excellence streamer in 2021.
“It’s particularly for having excellent safety performance and activities,” Shepherd said. “For zero Class A and B incidents and also completing risk management training and the ARAP (Army Readiness Assessment Program) survey.”
Garrison Commander Col. Erin Eike congratulated the safety office team and expressed her appreciation to the Redstone workforce for their support.
“Everyone pulled together and we’re doing the right thing,” she said. “As we’re looking forward, keep safety in mind. Thank you to the safety team. Congrats.”
Safety specialist Aviance Britt, along with co-worker Kendall Lewis, coordinated the first Installation Safety Day, June 3 at the Redstone Activity Field. The event drew more than 400 people and had 22 vendors and about 70 vendors’ support people.
“The Garrison commander was pleased with the turnout at the event and would like for it to be an annual event,” Britt said. “This event was successful largely due to tenant participation. We hope to have more organizations participate in the next event.”
Britt shared her thoughts on the installation safety office receiving a safety excellence streamer for this year.
“I really think that safety is a collective effort,” she said. “We wouldn’t be able to have success in safety if not for our dedicated workforce.”
Recipients of this year’s Army Safety Excellence Streamer include Redstone Arsenal; Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey; and Fort Detrick, Maryland.
