As we enter the summer we reflect and celebrate the deep legacy we are entrusted to uphold. In the span of just a few weeks, we commemorate three powerful observances: the 250th Birthday of the United States Army, Juneteenth, and Independence Day.

Each of these milestones tells a story of resilience, service, and the unyielding pursuit of freedom.

On June 14, 1775, the U.S. Army was born. For 250 years, American Soldiers have stood guard, answered the call, and defended our nation’s ideals, at home and around the world. At Natick Soldier Systems Center, that legacy lives on in every test, design, and innovation that supports the Soldier, the centerpiece of all that we do. Our mission here is not only technical; it is profoundly personal. Our work enables readiness, survivability, and success for those on the front lines.

On June 19, we mark Juneteenth, a moment in history that symbolizes the fulfillment of the promise of freedom in our country. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure the last enslaved Americans were set free. The Juneteenth Federal Holiday is an opportunity to recognize that historical event.

Then, on July 4, we celebrate Independence Day, the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It was the birth of a bold idea, that all people are created equal and endowed with “unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Today, our Army continues to defend that ideal, often at great cost. As we gather with friends and families for fireworks and cookouts, let us not forget the generations who’ve served to make those moments possible.

To every Soldier, civilian, and family member at Natick: Thank you. You are part of a rich lineage of service as you continue to shape our Army, our nation, and our future. I am proud to serve alongside each of you.

SOLDIERS: OUR CREDENTIALS.
