PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Picatinny Arsenal was recently awarded “best garrison” within the U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) ID-SUSTAINMENT, and fifth overall worldwide within IMCOM, a recognition the northern New Jersey military installation received for the second time in three years.

“I want to congratulate all the professional garrison teams for their exemplary dedication and commitment to excellence in supporting their Senior Commanders, Soldiers, Civilians, and Family Members.,” said Lt. Gen. Omar Jones, IMCOM Commanding General. “This effort embodies our service culture and truly makes IMCOM the Army’s home.”

The Army’s Best Garrison competition is one piece of the overall Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence, organized by the Secretary of Defense to recognize the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.

"This award, marking our second first-place IMCOM-Sustainment win in three years, and second top five within IMCOM, highlights the outstanding service that our team provides to Team Picatinny,” said Lt. Col. Craig A. Bonham II, U.S. Army Garrison Picatinny Arsenal Garrison Commander.

“It’s a privilege to work alongside such a committed group, and I’m immensely proud of everything we’ve accomplished together," the garrison commander said as he reflected on the achievement.

A total of 99 U.S. Army Garrisons in 13 countries, spanning 13.7 million acres across 17 time zones, make up IMCOM, a support formation responsible for managing and maintaining Army installations worldwide. It essentially acts as the "city government" for Army bases, providing infrastructure, facilities, and services to support Soldiers and their families.

ID-SUSTAINMENT is a subordinate organization of IMCOM and is responsible for the mission command and leadership of 10 US Army Garrison commands that deliver and integrate Base Support services on Army installations to enable Army readiness.

Each garrison submits a nomination package compiled with information provided by subject matter experts. The data is then reworked by the Plans, Analysis, Integration Office to meet IMCOM specifications, before being submitted for review by a selection panel who scores and decides on their ranking. Criteria for the honor are divided into 13 distinct categories ranging from mission support to fiscal stewardship, to quality of life and service culture.

“This is a tremendous honor and a testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of the Picatinny Arsenal Garrison team,” said Fortunato Rubio, U.S. Army Garrison Picatinny Arsenal, Deputy Garrison Commander.

“I know the team strives every day to provide the best possible environment for our soldiers, their families and our civilian workforce which ultimately supports the warfighter and Army Readiness.”
