A safety escape room was one of the activities held at White Sands Missile Range during Safety Stand Down Week May 5 to 7 at the Post Theater and Professional Development Center.

The week started with a Garrison meeting at the Post Theater on May 5 followed by a White Sands Test Center Town Hall on May 6.

The Town Hall was followed by an Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, Update presented by Frank Olivas, an OSHA authorized outreach trainer from the Risk Management Institute at El Paso Community College.

Olivas kept the audience captive and entertained while talking about the top ten most cited standards to include fall protection, hazard communication, ladders, and respiratory protection.

Peter Grelle, Chief WSTC Safety Office, and his team put the event together to help educate the WSMR workforce on the importance of safety.

Dina Denney, a safety engineer with the WSTC Safety Office, said they set up four different escape rooms that present safety issues that employees must solve.

“You have to work the puzzles and figure out the clues so you can get out of the room,” Denney said. “It is a fun quick exercise to teach a little bit about safety.”

There were also several displays at the Professional Development Center to include one on radiation safety and presentations by the WSMR Fire Department.
