The Command Surgeon team from the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Maj. (Doctor) Nicholas Studer and Sgt. 1st Class Thiet Tran recently completed the Army’s Northern Warfare Training Center’s Cold Weather Orientation Course (CWOC) at the Army’s Alaska Black Rapids Training site earning their Arctic Tab.
During the 5-day course, Soldiers learned best practices when out in frigid temperatures and experienced the arctic terrain during the course’s culminating field exercise.
South Korea is a cold region with significant effect on military operations for one month or more each year. Moderately Cold meeting below freezing for the coldest month in Daegu. Farther north meets criteria for sub-Arctic conditions, which have significant impact and risk to military and medical operations.
