First Officer from Bangladesh inducted into CGSC International Hall of Fame

Fort Leavenworth, Kan. - Officials at the Command and General Staff College inducted the first officer from the People's Republic of Bangladesh, retired Gen. Moeen Uddin Ahmed, former Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, into the International Hall of Fame in a ceremony held here Oct. 1. Moeen joined two other former CGSC graduates honored in absentia: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Lt. Gen. Ng Yat Chung, both of Singapore.

Moeen, a 1987 graduate of CGSC, noted that he gained much more than a graduation certificate during his year at Fort Leavenworth. "CGSC's teaching later helped me in building my career and allowed me to lead our Army in different stages of my career - and that also includes as Chief of the Army Staff for four years," he said.

This induction brings the total to 234 officers in the International Hall of Fame from 64 countries. Induction consideration is extended to resident International Military Student graduates of CGSC who, through military merit, have attained the position of Chief of Army or higher in the officer's home country. Fifteen IHOF inductees have also gone on to become the chief executive of their country. Honorees are inducted according to precedence established by the year of their graduation.

Brig. Gen. Edward C. Cardon, deputy commandant of CGSC, presided over the ceremony and remarked on the significance of this induction. "The 231 International Hall of Fame members in the history books, the three inductees we celebrate at this ceremony, and the young leaders of our Nation we see around the world today are the legacy of this great institution. It is made up of people: students, a world class faculty and staff, and a supporting community that includes the selfless service of our sponsors," he said.

The International Hall of Fame was established in 1973 jointly between CGSC, the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars and the CGSC Alumni Association (now the CGSC Foundation). Inductees are presented a CGSC Certificate of Honor by the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) and a Life Constituent Certificate and eagle statuette from the CGSC Foundation. Their framed portrait is displayed, alongside earlier inductees, in the International Hall of Fame Gallery located on the 3rd floor of the Lewis and Clark Center, Fort Leavenworth.

-Gen. Moeen is the first inductee from Bangladesh, out of 28 total officers from Bangladesh, 13 of whom have become general officers; Prime Minister Lee and Lt. Gen. Ng are the 3rd and 4th graduates from Singapore to be inducted into the IHOF
