FORT BENNING, GA - The 2009 U.S. Army Soldier Show takes center stage at Wetherby Field at 8 p.m. today.

The show is sponsored by I. A.M. STRONG, the Army's Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault Program, and AT&T.

The theme of this year's production is "Lights! Camera! Action!" and features a wide range of popular music and dance numbers from artists such as Kenny Loggins, T-Pain, Duffy, Solange Knowles, Kanye West and Rhianna.

The 90-minute live production showcases the talents of 22 active-duty Soldiers - 15 performers and seven technicians - who represent various specialties within the Army, from a combat medic to a petroleum specialist. Their ranks include a graduate of the North Atlanta High School for Performing Arts, a roller-skating jamskater and a former morning radio show personality.

"The Soldier Show is in line with the old World War I traveling entertainment shows," said Donna Hyatt, publicity and acting marketing manager for Fort Benning's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation office. "People dance, sing, play music and tell jokes. That was the show's history and they keep to it today."

"Critics are hailing this as one of the best shows to come around in years," said Hyatt, who poured through blogs and MWR reports once the show premiered. "It's a family-friendly event so definitely bring the kids."

Soldier Show production director Victor Hurtado, said the audience will get to feel they are a part of the show.

"This audience is going to have the rare experience of feeling and being in a live television studio, including commercial breaks," he said.

Prior to the show's premiere at Fort Belvoir, Va., in April, Hurtado worked on TV productions Nashville Star, America's Got Talent, Clash of the Choirs and country performing artist Michael Peterson's My Real Life - Strong for America Tour.

Special features in this year's show include Frankie Smith's 1981 funk song Double Dutch Bus, performed while Soldiers jump rope on stage and Jai Ho from the multiple Oscar Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

The show is open to the public and admission is free. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Blankets and lawn chairs are recommended. Food and drink vendors will be on site. For directions and more information, visit www.benningmwr.com.
