About 20 members of the Radcliff Small Business Alliance spent the morning of June 15, 2024, giving a static M551 Sherman tank display at the installation’s Wilson Road Gate a fresh coat of paint.

FORT KNOX, Ky. — About 20 members of the Radcliff Small Business Alliance spent the morning of June 15 giving a static M551 Sheridan tank display at the installation’s Wilson Road Gate a fresh coat of paint.

The RSBA adopted the Vietnam-era tank as part of a service project to show their support for Fort Knox. Fort Knox officials posted a sign next to the tank highlighting their contributions.

Radcliff Small Business Alliance President Toshie Murrell paints one of the wheels of the tank.

Alliance President Toshie Murrell said they were pleased with the turnout of painters and the sign provided by Fort Knox.

“As a community organization representing close to 200 business and community members, we believe in giving back to our community and supporting our neighbors,” said Murrell. “Fort Knox leadership and community is always very supportive of the Radcliff Small Business Alliance, so we gladly welcome the opportunity to support them whenever we can.”

Fort Knox leaders provided a sign at the site of the tank to highlight the alliance members’ efforts.

Fort Knox Garrison Deputy Commander Jim Bradford said there are three other tanks available for adoption to those who are interested in giving them a fresh coat of paint. One tank is located at the bottom of Muldraugh Hill along Highway 31W; the other two sit at the Chaffee Gate entrance to Fort Knox.

Murrell said she believed the effort was very gratifying for all involved.

“I would encourage other organizations to adopt a tank so they too can support Fort Knox and the preservation of Fort Knox's history,” said Murrell. “It just makes you proud to sponsor such a project as painting a tank.”
