FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — On the fourth Thursday of November, Americans remember those who came to this land in search of freedom, and the community and relationships that allowed our nation to flourish. As you celebrate Thanksgiving, we hope you relax, spend time with your loved ones and reflect on the liberty and prosperity we enjoy in America.
Prior to the holiday weekend, every leader — military and civilian — should talk with those in their care about avoiding high-risk behaviors and preventable accidents while ensuring our Profession, Ethic and Values are the guideposts for actions.
For some, this can be a difficult time of year. Being there for one another is paramount — before, during and after this holiday weekend. Know your teammates. Know their plans for the weekend, along with any struggles or challenges they or their families are facing. Care for each other and provide a listening ear and available resources, and never leave a teammate — within your formation or to your left and right — behind.
Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of year for air and vehicle travel. Whether travelling locally or farther away, always assess risk and perform required safety checks before departure. Do not break the speed limit and lower speed, when necessary, based on road, weather, and environmental conditions. Always buckle up and ensure all within your care do the same. Do not drive distracted, tired or under the influence. Maintain supplies in the event of unexpected weather or driving conditions. For air travel, plan for the unexpected, including delays and cancellations and keep the chain of command informed. If you choose to enjoy the outdoors while operating motorcycles or recreational vehicles, ensure all legal and regulatory training, equipment and operating procedures are followed.
We are incredibly thankful and proud to serve with such a talented, dedicated team. We want each of you to return to duty safely after an enjoyable and restful weekend with family and friends. We are very proud to serve with you!
