ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. –More than 110 members of the APG community celebrated Armed Forces Day by competing in a tournament at Ruggles Golf Course May 10.
The 18-hole, four-person golf scramble is an annual APG tradition. Ruggles PGA Professional Dave Correll and the new General Manager of Ruggles Ted Dolzine welcomed the golfers during the opening ceremony. Correll kicked off the event by asking participants to stand for the national anthem. He also led a moment of silence to honor local World War II veteran Milton Leigh, who recently passed away. Leigh was a “big supporter of Ruggles,” he said.
Correll said the Armed Forces Day Golf Tournament is one of the largest events held on the installation since the COVID-19 pandemic. The teambuilding event included a box lunch and prizes.
“We really enjoy seeing everyone back, seeing this large support,” Correll said.
Dolzine thanked the event sponsors APG Federal Credit Union and Pivot Physical Therapy for making the event possible.
After the shotgun start, Dolzine said he anticipates a busy spring and summer at Ruggles Golf Course. Last week 975 rounds of golf were played; the average is 700.
“Hopefully, as the workforce returns [to working onsite], business will increase,” he said. “Please book your summer outing with us.”
