Dental professionals from the APG Dental Clinic Command visited the APG North (Aberdeen) child development center in honor of Month of the Military Child April 15.
Each child also received a goody bag with a toothbrush, dental floss and a lollipop.
Lt. Col. Michael Villacarlos, commander of the APG Dental Clinic Command, and Spc. Jordan Bouie, a dental technician, read a book to the children called “Sugar Bugs” by Dr. Sam Weisz and Erica Weisz, which teaches children the importance of flossing and brushing. Afterward, children practiced brushing away the “sugar bugs” on a laminated illustration of a cartoon mouth.
“We wanted to show them dental hygiene can be fun,” Bouie said.
Supervisory program specialist Lisanne Blake said the visit from the dental professionals coincided with the center’s “Community Week” theme. APG firefighters and police officers visited the center also.
“Our dentists are our community heroes too,” she said.
MOMC
MOMC is observed each April to honor and celebrate military children and youth for their service, commitment, and sacrifice to support the Army’s mission.
Throughout the month, APG CDCs and youth centers provide special activities for the children who attend them. This year, the Army theme for the observance is “Military Children and Youth: A Resilient Force in a Changing World.”
