Commanding General of U.S. Army Communication-Electronics Command and Aberdeen Proving Ground Senior Commander Maj. Gen. Robert L. Edmonson II expresses his joy in seeing the increased attendance at the quarterly CECOM town hall, March 7, 2023, in the Myer Auditorium.

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command’s senior leadership updated the workforce during the quarterly town hall on March 7, 2023, in the Myer Auditorium. Topics of discussion included information on workforce diversity, employee wellness and training opportunities. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

Maj. Gen. Robert L. Edmonson II, commanding general of CECOM, reflected on how the organization was involved in operations in Southwest Asia at the beginning of his term. He recognized that CECOM has been busy all over the globe, especially with operations moving to Europe recently.

“I want to thank the entire team; the way in which you are all coming together, the work that is happening across the board—hardware, software, medical. It’s all happening and it’s happening well,” Edmonson said.

Edmonson also noted the changes in leadership occurring across the AMC footprint. He bid farewell to Col. Anthony Nesbitt, commander of the Army Medical Logistics Command.

“Col. Nesbitt, I just want to take the time and thank you. You and your entire team have taken the organization [AMLC] a long way in a short bit of time,” Edmonson said.

Looking into the future, Edmonson spoke of FY24 and new business practices that focused on the transition to sustainment.

“Nothing is sweeping, nothing is huge,” he stated. “We need to begin to prepare ourselves. This is what I believe we are for: CECOM actively sustains C5ISR systems which have or will transition towards sustainment. This business model is not happening yet, but why sit back and wait for it to happen?”

Edmonson then passed the mic to Command Sgt. Maj. Michael R. Conaty, CECOM’s senior enlisted advisor.

Conaty informed the audience that the Junior Advisory Council now boasts more than 20 members. He stated it was open to anyone in CECOM and they are looking for members and leadership to help advise the council.

He went on to highlight the importance of being a voice for the CECOM workforce, thanking them for their candid feedback.

“We’re listening and I really appreciate it because it helps me articulate your problems in a way that would not happen without your candid feedback,” he said. “Your feedback matters, and I am listening.”

Evelyn Abbott, an equal opportunity office specialist presented on behalf the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Council.

Abbott said the CECOM DEIA Council develops actionable recommendations and solutions that address recruitment and diversity challenges. They meet the second month of every quarter, with the next meeting being this May in-person and virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Following Abbott was Sean Green, APG’s community ready and resilient integrator. He informed the audience how the Commander’s Ready and Resilient Council and Civilian Fitness Health Promotion Program supports employee wellness by educating the workforce on opportunities and resources available.

The CFHPP focuses on enhancing the health, fitness and quality of life of civilians while increasing organizational wellness and mission productivity.
