WIESBADEN, Germany – Honorable Christine Wormuth, U.S. Secretary of the Army, visited Germany, Poland and Belgium on her third trip to the region, Sept. 19-23, to receive an update on Ukraine and to reaffirm Army 2030.

Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war in Ukraine underscores that the U.S. Army’s objectives for the Army of 2030 are properly focused, said Wormuth. “As a data-centric Army, our Soldiers are adapting and innovating to support our Ukraine partners. We are leveraging cloud-based solutions to provide weapons and logistic support through the International Donor Coordination Center as well as developing grounbreaking telemaintenance solutions to keep Army weapons systems combat-ready for the Ukrainians.”

While in Germany, she visited U.S. Army Europe and Africa headquarters, and spoke with the unit’s new commander, and his staff and subordinate commanders.

“U.S. Army Europe and Africa is campaigning on two continents every single day,” said Williams. “Whether supporting Ukraine and our NATO allies in Eastern Europe or training with partner armies in Africa, we are investing time, resources, and our most precious commodity – people – to ensure we are ready to face evolving and growing challenges now and into the future.”

While at the command, she also spoke with service members and leaders from a variety of units and countries.

During one interaction, an American leader shared a story with Wormuth about a recent engagement in his hometown while on leave, which generated interest in the all-volunteer force.

She applauded the initiative and encouraged others to do the same.

“Every chance you get, communicate the value of the Army and highlight the amazing opportunities it offers young Americans,” said Wormuth.

In Poland, she and Williams, who also leads NATO’s Allied Land Command, visited U.S. Soldiers supporting Ukraine and reinforcing the Alliance’s eastern flank.

Before returning home, Wormuth traveled to Belgium where she met with Ambassador Julianne Smith, U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, and the U.S. Mission to NATO, the official representation of the U.S. to the Alliance.
