Mentoring Program

Mentoring groups known as M-Squads have been formed in Harford County Public Schools, particularly the Aberdeen and Edgewood middle schools providing support for military children with family members that are deployed or just need military-focused peer support. Groups of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students get together, to emotionally support each other and share information about their loved ones. They participate in group and individual activities to build and strengthen their daily survival skills. Activities include sending banners of appreciation to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, creating a "Showcase of Honor" displaying the names of the deployed, creating wall posters of the group and a field trip to hear a Johns Hopkins University neurosurgeon.
