SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii -- Department of the Army firefighters are currently responding to a wildfire burning near the South fire break at Makua Military Reservation, here.

The fire began early Monday, June 13. Army first responders, including aerial fire suppression support from the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, responded and have contained approximately 10 percent of the fire as of 9 a.m. An estimated 10 acres have burned thus far.

Residents and motorists near Makua Military Reservation may see smoke in the sky, but there is no threat to nearby facilities or people at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
