SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii – Applications are due Jan. 28 for DoDEA’s Virtual High School, which allows high school students stationed in Hawaii to supplement their education with virtual classes.

The National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Expanded Eligibility Pilot Program, an enrollment expansion, this year.

Its purpose is to evaluate the feasibility and scalability of a permanent DoDEA’s Virtual High School program after four years as well as assess the impact of the expanded enrollment on military and family readiness.

The pilot is open to military-connected school districts that support remote installations and will supplement (not compete with) school districts and private programs. Students in this program may take up to two non-core courses per year (not a full-year program).

DoDEA Virtual High School is a fully accredited high school providing supplemental courses for DoDEA-eligible high school students in grades 9 -12. DoDEA Virtual High School averages 2,500 course registrations per semester with the majority of DoDEA Virtual High School students taking either one or two courses per semester.

Eligibility Requirements for Participation

  • School-aged dependent of an active-duty member of the armed forces
  • Must be in grades 9 through 12
  • Ineligible to enroll in DoDEA’s Virtual High School program
  • Require supplementary courses to graduate in current state OR
  • Demonstrate a clear need to participate in DoDEA’s Virtual High School program
