FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — On Wednesday, Oct. 13, we celebrate the 246th birthday of the United States Navy. We are very proud to serve with the Sailors and civilians who are part of nearly two and half centuries of tradition and accomplishment.

With the establishment of the Continental Navy in 1775, our naval teammates fought for our independence against the British. By 1794, the Navy became a permanent force, supporting our Armed Forces in victory in every major military campaign since.

The Navy is one of America’s most powerful tools to project power and deter our adversaries. Serving in times of war and peace, the men and women of the Navy maintain the freedom of sea, air and land routes. And, just as important, they endeavor to do all things with honor, courage and commitment.

At Fort Leonard Wood, we host Seabees, Civil Engineer Corps Officers, and Department of the Navy civilians who train and work here in the heart of our nation. These teammates play a key role in military readiness and we are proud to serve with them.

Please join us in celebrating the rich history, the current accomplishments and the bright future of our Navy.

Happy birthday, United States Navy!
