For more than 20 years, Denim Day has inspired communities to show solidarity in the fight against sexual assault by wearing denim clothing.

FORT KNOX, Ky. – In recognition of Sexual Awareness and Prevention Month, Fort Knox leaders encourage the community to participate in Denim Day Wednesday, April 28.

For more than 20 years, Denim Day has inspired communities to show solidarity in the fight against sexual assault by wearing denim clothing.

The movement began in Italy in 1999 after an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction, citing the victim’s tight jeans meant she’d given consent. The decision incited protests by women who all wore jeans to show their support.

If mission permits, participants are encouraged to wear denim on the last Wednesday in April to show their commitment to this year’s SAAPM theme: “protecting our people protects our mission.”
