Help Heal Veterans is sponsoring Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation to bring therapeutic craft kits to Army families, veterans and all eligible MWR patrons.

Army Arts and Crafts and FMWR, parts of U.S. Army Installation Management Command, are working with Help Heal Vets to give families and veterans these free kits.

Help Heal Veterans, established in 1971, provides free therapeutic craft kits to hospitalized and homebound veterans and is expanding their reach through this sponsorship. Their craft kits help injured and recuperating veterans improve fine motor skills and cognitive functioning, manage stress and substance abuse and cope with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries, while also improving their sense of self-esteem and overall physical and mental health.

“As an ‘Army brat,’ I’ve experienced first-hand the critical role MWR plays in improving the quality of life for service members and their families,” said Joe McClain (Ret.) Navy Capt., CEO of Help Heal Vets. “Being able to sponsor with MWR, an organization dedicated to serving soldiers and their families, is a game-changer for Heal Vets. This sponsorship ensures the therapeutic crafts we create will have an even greater impact in supporting the healing process of our warfighters through increased distribution.”

The organization has shipped craft kits to multiple garrisons including USAG Vicenza, Camp Darby and USAG Bavaria. The kits can be picked up at the garrison’s MWR facilities. More kits will be shipped to various garrisons over the course of six months.
