FORT POLK, LA. -- Headlining Fort Polk's celebration of American independence this year is country superstar Clint Black, who recently starred on television's Celebrity Apprentice. To date, Black has written, recorded and released more than 100 songs, a benchmark in any artist's career. An astounding one-third of the songs eligible for single release achieved hit song status at country radio. Black takes the stage at 8 p.m.

The festivities begin at 5 p.m. July 4 at Headquarters Field. Bring your friends and Family for an exciting, fun-filled day.

The celebration begins with a free, live performance by visual artist Richard Hight at 5:30 p.m.

Hight will create a piece of artwork on an 8-foot canvas choreographed to selected patriotic music. A salute to the nations begins at 6 p.m. followed by live musical entertainment by CajunNation at 6:30 p.m.

At dusk, the air resonates with the sound of patriotic music. The night sky will light up with an awesome display of fireworks that's sure to take your breath away. It's the largest fireworks display in West Central Louisiana and coordinating music will be simulcast on KVVP 105.7FM.

Admission is free and open to the public. Enjoy food and beverages from regional vendors.

There will be plenty of carnival foods, ice-cold lemonade, frozen treats, barbecue and more. Games sponsored by Fort Polk's Family Readiness Groups and plenty of inflatables will be available for the kids' entertainment.

The only available parking on site will be for vehicles with handicapped tags. Event parking is available in the following locations: BJACH south parking lot, North Polk Elementary School, Allen Memorial Library and Education Center, Perez Field, the Battle Combat Training Center and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service Mini Mall.

Shuttle buses will provide transportation to and from the celebration beginning at 4 p.m. Glass containers, personal fireworks, pets, weapons and coolers are prohibited. Off-post residents with valid driver's license are encouraged to use any Fort Polk gate.
