ANSBACH, Germany (November 25, 2019) - Installation Management Command (IMCOM) presented one of U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Ansbach's own with its highest award during the Senior Leaders and Garrison Commanders Conference Nov. 19 in San Antonio, Texas.

Mike Beando, Director of Human Resources (DHR), was one of 15 awardees to receive the 2019 IMCOM Stalwart Award.

Beando said he was honored to be nominated, and when he found out he was a recipient, he was humbled and honored to accept the award on behalf of the DHR team.

"Without the outstanding support that I received from the command group leadership, fellow directors, and special staff, I wouldn't be representing USAG Ansbach and the Region," Beando said. "This award is less about me and more about the team."

The Stalwart Award is given to employees who distinguish themselves amongst their peers and leaders as outstanding IMCOM civilians and exceed the call of duty to achieve the Army and IMCOM objectives. The program honored recipients for their work in 2018.

Beando established a Workforce Development Program Specialist where there was no authorization previously, ensured that Army Records Information Management System courses were offered each quarter, and created an internal developmental assignment program that provided post employees on Priority Placement Program a career broadening assignment.

He also coordinated for IMCOM Headquarters to send an instructor to Germany to facilitate the Supervisory Leadership Course.

"This training ultimately provided 25 Army professionals from USAG Ansbach the opportunity for professional and personal development that they are able to apply to their directorates and staff to improve communications, trust, and respect," said Kathleen Gavle, Deputy to the Garrison Commander.

The same instructor that trained USAG Ansbach personnel subsequently went to USAG Wiesbaden, which led to IMCOM-Europe training almost 50 Army Professionals and saving the U.S. Army approximately $240,000 and more than 1,400 hours of travel compensatory time.

As part of being a key player in accomplishing the IMCOM mission, Beando ensured civilian manning levels continued to be a top readiness concern within USAG Ansbach's footprint that consists of 11 sites across Germany, Bulgaria and Romania.

Beando has led the USAG Ansbach team through a number of initiatives and processes to build the best possible teams in all three locations, said Gavle.

"The DHR team that I have the honor to lead are truly the best Army professionals in the Army," Beando said. "Their contributions and selfless duty are what contribute to USAG Ansbach being The Best Hometown in Europe!"
