MADIGAN ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. -- The goals of embedded behavioral health are improving access to behavioral health care for active-duty service members, increasing mission readiness of operational units, potentially identifying those with behavioral health challenges as early as possible, increasing and improving communication between behavioral health professionals and operational unit leaders, and serving as a clinical platform for quality care delivery.
In addition to improving access to behavioral health care right in their own unit areas, service members spend less time traveling to and from appointments. As a result, service members spend less time away from their units. Having this outlet for behavioral health care available in operational units can also help in removing some of the stigma associated with seeking care.
To provide greater support for nearly 12,000 service members who currently access Denali and Yukon Clinic's EBH services, Madigan's Department of Behavioral Health is combining the Denali and Yukon clinics to form the all-new Rainier Embedded Behavioral Health Clinic to improve walk-in and administrative processes, group availability, and to provide better access to care.
"Combining Denali EBH and Yukon EBH in the Madigan Annex has streamlined behavioral health services for several of JBLM's units," said Dr. Colette Candy, the supervising psychologist and chief of Madigan's Department of Behavioral Health's Active Duty Service Lane. "By merging into one large clinic (Rainier EBH), it standardizes processes and allows us to maximize resources in order to meet the behavioral health needs of service members," she added.
Units supported by Rainier EBH are 1st Corps Headquarters, 93rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 51st Signal Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade, 6th Criminal Investigation Division, 13th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 62nd Medical Brigade, 201st Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, Madigan Troop Battalion, Warrior Transition Battalion Cadre, Army Active Guard Reserve, Active Army Reserve, and Active National Guard; as well as any unit not designated to another EBH.
In addition to providing support for service members with its EBH clinics, Madigan's Department of Behavioral Health has the largest number of behavioral health providers in the Army and offers comprehensive behavioral health services to all TRICARE eligible beneficiaries, such as: inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care; evaluation and management of psychotropic medications; individual, group and family psychotherapy; diagnostic evaluation and psychological testing; child and adolescent care; addiction treatment programs; family crisis emergencies; and more.
