CAMP HUMPHREYS, Korea -- U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys Substance Abuse Program coordinator, Yeritza Nocera, was awarded the Civilian Service Achievement Medal, Oct. 8, for her actions, which prevented a former Soldier from committing suicide, here.

Nocera, a Panama native, teaches substance abuse classes for Soldiers assigned to Humphreys.

She received recognition through the Interactive Customer Evaluation comment card from a veteran, who attended her class in 2018. He appreciated her sincerity, and noted her teachings saved his life.

"I am grateful to have met her because had it not been for the memories of the lessons she taught and the style she used, I would have committed suicide," he wrote on the ICE comment.

"Being able to reach someone who walks into our class is the award," Nocera said. "This medal and certificate are extra. Knowing he was able to be here to celebrate his daughter's sixth birthday is my award."
